This introductory course emphasizes listening, speaking, reading and writing. Communication based activities in Spanish speaking
situations as well as the study of Hispanic culture/civilization are integrated into the curriculum. Partially fulfills the University
of California “e” and California State University subject requirements. Open to all students.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in English.

Spanish 2

A continuation of skills learned in Spanish 1, this class provides further reading in customs and history of Spanish speaking countries.
Conversation, reports and communication-based activities are included, as well as increased writing opportunities and further study of the
language structure. Fulfills University of California “e” and California State University subject requirements. Open to all students.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Spanish 1.

Spanish 3

Pronunciation and comprehension are studied by means of practice and discussion. More emphasis is placed on themes and written reports as well
as reading longer passages for comprehension. Students completing this course should be able to use Spanish in a practical way, including conversations
on everyday subjects with a good degree of facility. Fulfills the University of California “e” and California State University subject requirements.
Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Spanish 2.

Spanish 4

Spanish 4 focuses on development of speaking by using Spanish exclusively in the class, group discussions, oral assignments and lecture.
Emphasis is placed on furthering practice in writing, increasing reading rate, comprehension and vocabulary, as well as grammar as needed
and increased familiarity with the Spanish culture. Fulfills University of California “e” and California State University elective requirements.
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Spanish 3.

Advanced Placement Spanish Language & Composition

As a continuation of Spanish 3, this is an advanced level course designed to prepare the student for the College Board Advanced Placement examination
in Spanish Language. Taking the examination is a requirement of the class. A final review of grammar is presented vocabulary is expanded, and fluency
is promoted in reading, writing listening and speaking. This class fulfills University of California “e” and California State University elective
requirements. Open to juniors and seniors.
Prerequisite: A grade of A in Spanish 3 or permission of the Instructor.
