Friday Night Live
The California Friday Night Live (FNL) Program was developed in 1984. It began as a pilot program dedicated to reducing the number of deaths
and injuries caused by teen motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. During the first years of the program the youth
involved were organized into high school-based student action groups. The success rate was so great that in 1988 a statewide office was established.
By 1990, the number of counties with the FNL Program had increased 300% and the main focus of the program began to shift from one of preventing drinking
and driving among teens to promoting healthy lifestyles free of alcohol, tobacco, or other substance abuse among youth.
At Mercy High School, the FNL club is supervised by Mrs. Donna Lindeman. Officers are elected at the beginning of each year.
Key Club
Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led
organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they
build their schools and communities.
At Mercy High School, the Key Club is supervised by Mrs. Eileen Bauer. Officers are elected at the beginning of each year.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness
from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
At Mercy High School, the Habitat for Humanity Club is supervised by Mr. Jim Weber. This year's President is Kirsten Thompson, who plans to keep
the club active in the area.
The California Scholarship Federation and the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CSF and CJSF) emphasize high standards of service,
scholarship, and citizenship for California middle and high school students. CSF and CJSF encourage service to the school and community while
fostering pride in scholastic achievement. CSF is an academic club with certain acheivement based requirements.
At Mercy High School, the CSF club is supervised by Mrs. Helen Arbini. Officers are elected at the beginning of each year.
Chess Club
The Chess Club is new this year, and will be supervised by Mr. Matthews.
Yearbook
Yearbook is a class at Mercy High School, but it takes the whole Mercy community to make it work, from the students in the class to parents and
other friends of Mercy taking pictures and sending them along from various activities.
Mr. Cherveny will gladly accept any photos that you send along to his email: chervenyr@mercy-high.org
